Welcome to Enrichment classes at West Park Elementary.
Enrichment is proud to have been a recipient of a Donors Choose grant. This means that all students in 1-2 will get to experience OZOBOT robotics and learn color coded programming. Second grade will delve deeper using block-key coding with the Ozobot's and Sphero robots. Kindergarten will explore introductory unplugged coding, hexabug mazes and the "A" in STEAM, learning art techniques in a variety of mediums. Interactive hands on learning lessons will connect math, science and art to technology as it relates to STEAM concepts. Our youngest students will get to examine and problem solve using the scientific method and reasoning. First Grade will learn all about sound and light using the Next Generation First Grade Science Standards . This means dabbling in all things wave related for the sound-light unit, and experimenting with the needs of plants and measuring plant growth for the life sciences unit. Integrated within the curriculum we will incorporate lessons in STEAM science, introduction to keyboarding, and Ozobot robotics, challenging our first graders to think deeply about solving problems and working in collaboration. Second Grade will be embarking on a journey beginning with Stop Motion Animation, Ozobots, and Sphero robots integrated with advanced STEAM challenges. Later in the year we will learn coding, dabble in material sciences, and try out STEAM challenges . Second graders will also learn Keyboarding skills by using the web based program typing.com. For detailed information please visit the website at www.typing.com. This course will not only teach keyboarding effectively with correct techniques, but it is fun and exciting for the children. All students in first and second grade will participate in the Hour of Code in December What is the Hour of Code? A one-hour activity. West Park Students will choose from a variety of self-guided tutorials. Code.org’s tutorials feature Minecraft, Star Wars, Angry Birds, and the Grinch. Check them out through the links on out Coding Activities tab. "By exposing both girls and boys to fundamental computing concepts on a level playing field, starting with the earliest learners, we can inspire today’s generation of students to build technology." - Code.org |
Students will master how to follow three to five step directions, working with others and getting into routines.
Ozobot Bit is a one inch tall small, smart line following robot. The Ozobot Bit use precise movement and sensors to follow and react to colors on a page or screen.
