Robotics and Coding
Second grade will begin the year practicing the importance of learning step-by-step directions. Students will have a multitude of programming and coding opportunities including the online Hour of Coding, Ozobots and Sphero robots. We will begin our coding unit with Ozobot Robots using color coding, drawing patterns, and blockly coding, learning sequential thinking, logical reasoning and coding concepts. Student control their robots with OzoCodes by simply drawing lines and color segments. Then advance to a visual block-based editor OzoBlockly. During Hour-of-Code activities, coders will explore more block-based drag and drop interfaces. Later in the year we will program Sphero robots. Lightning Lab is the Sphero App for programming Sphero robots. Beginning students will give robots commands by drawing a path in the app for their robot to follow.
